Here in our studio-laboratory we have a wide range of conservation tools, materials and pigments to hand. We also use contemporary techniques to perfect our essentially traditional approach to conservation. We create sound restorations using methods and materials commensurate with the age of each historic piece. These repairs can then be integrated seamlessly using our unique antiquing effects and treatments.
Drawing upon our combined expertise and experience we are able to accept all kinds of repair, restoration and conservation projects, from large scale architectural joinery including roof beams, trusses and floors, to smaller items of historic furniture which can be brought to our Somerset studio.
We take a particular interest in the conservation of wooden objects such as painted panels and furniture. As wood is a living material it is especially responsive to environmental changes. Expansion or contraction can result in damage to any decoration or gilding on a wooden surface. Using high carat gold leaf and oil size, we are able to undertake gilding conservation projects of all kinds including those on a traditional gesso base. We can burnish a water gilded surface and sympathetically tone or distress a newly gilded surface to seamlessly integrate a repair or restoration to a treasured historic object. We take both pride and pleasure in the careful conservation of all historic pieces.
